Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Welcome to the Winter 2015 Tri-Annual Newsletter of The Program on Intergroup Relations (IGR) at the University of Michigan!

As students are taking final exams and preparing for the next few months, we are reflecting back on the past year with pride. Among the many wonderful achievements of IGR students, faculty, and staff, is that Winter 2015 marked the first semester of IGR offering a Minor in Intergroup Relations Education. We are very excited to be graduating our first two students with the minor in just a few days. Additionally, we have nearly 20 other students who have declared the minor!

For the Spring/Summer term, we will be teaching courses, starting the 11th year of Youth Dialogues on Race and Ethnicity in Detroit, holding our annual National Intergroup Dialogue Institute, and planning for the fall. Although it is always difficult to say goodbye to the majority of students for the summer, we are excited for all the opportunities that spring and summer hold for the program!

This edition of the newsletter contains many articles, including a staff chat with Danny Alvarez, updates and reflections from several IGR teams, a profile of alumnus David Sweetman, and some announcements regarding opportunities to get involved in the program. Happy reading!

Warmest wishes,

Kelly Maxwell and Monita Thompson, Co-Directors
