The Program on Intergroup Relations will move our student space and offices to East Liberty Street this April, relocating from our current temporary home in the Michigan League Underground to 530 E. Liberty Street. This update replaces our previous announcement that IGR would permanently relocate to the North University Building.
As campus space priorities evolved to address emerging needs, a new opportunity came up for us to move to East Liberty Street in lieu of the North University Building that we’d announced last fall. This will complete the relocation prompted by the redevelopment of the Galleria Building.
At 530 E. Liberty, IGR will share space with the Bowman Center for Research to Practice (formerly NCID). Our new hub is a vibrant, well-designed space illuminated by natural light, welcoming students and visitors to its accessible common areas, meeting rooms, and staff and faculty offices.
Our future home is located at the corner of Liberty and Maynard, near the heart of the State Street District—within walking and wheelchair distance of the Diag and downtown transit, and close to the Maynard Street parking structure.
The change also puts IGR down the block from its former South University Avenue neighbors, Pinball Pete’s, whose iconic neon signs went up at 500 E. Liberty in February.
We’ll move out of the Michigan League from April 15-17, and plan to open for students and visitors at 530 E. Liberty by April 20, with an open house to follow this fall. Stay informed by subscribing to our newsletter, IGR Voice, and checking the latest information at igr.umich.edu/move.
