1 CREDIT | IN-PERSON | FIRST/SECOND-YEAR STUDENTS
You don’t need to have everything figured out. "Life Design for Wolverines" gives you practical tools to explore possibilities, make meaningful choices, and shape academic, career, and life experiences that reflect your values, identities, interests, and goals.
Using design thinking, you’ll approach college and the future as something you can actively create—not a single path you have to discover. Through interactive activities, reflection, conversations, and collaborative problem-solving, you’ll connect with other Wolverines, learn from alumni and professionals, and turn uncertainty into opportunities for exploration and growth.
By the end of the course, you will be able to:
- Use Life Design mindsets, processes, and tools to map your evolving college, career, and life journey.
- Navigate uncertainty with greater curiosity, confidence, and flexibility.
- Deepen your understanding of your social identities, values, strengths, and decision-making.
- Build authentic relationships and develop skills to communicate across differences and commonalities.
- Apply a creative problem-solving framework to real-world challenges and grow as a leader in U-M’s diverse community.
- Develop three distinct visions for your future—called Odyssey Plans—with well-being at the center.
- Connect with alumni and professionals to learn from their varied life and career paths.
- Identify a concrete action you can take to create positive social change while developing skills relevant to your future career.
Come as you are—no five-year plan required. Leave with new connections, practical tools, and multiple possibilities for what comes next.
This course is a collaborative effort between The Program on Intergroup Relations and the University Career Center.
