IGR would like to extend a hearty congratulations to our Graduate Intern Dan Green, for his recent win of the Homer A. Neal Award for Outstanding Graduate Student at the 2015 Michigan Chapter - NAACP Image Awards. This awards ceremony, which was held on April 19 this year, recognized several U-M students for their achievements.
In 2014-2015, Israeli Scholar Dr. Manal Yazbak Abu Ahmad spent a year with The Program on Intergroup Relations as a Fulbright Scholar. Check out the article she recently wrote for the Fulbright Israel Alumni Newsletter about her experience.

As students are taking final exams and preparing for the next few months, we are reflecting back on the past year with pride. Among the many wonderful achievements of IGR students, faculty, and staff, is that Winter 2015 marked the first semester of IGR offering a Minor in Intergroup Relations Education. We are very excited to be graduating our first two students with the minor in just a few days. Additionally, we have nearly 20 other students who have declared the minor!

One of the best parts about interning at IGR is the amount of overlap that happens between this program and other groups around campus. This semester, not only did I start my work at IGR, I also joined the Michigan Ballroom Dance Team. During my interactions with a team of over 200 people, I have had the privilege of meeting other people who are not only passionate about dance, but about social justice as well.

In November 2014, U-M alumna Stephanie Chang was elected to serve a two-year term in the Michigan House of Representatives, representing District 6 (Detroit along the river, River Rouge, and Ecorse). What makes Chang’s election to office unique is her distinction of being the first Asian American female elected to the Michigan legislature.
